What is proof of baptism?

A parish will ask for proof of baptism when someone wants to receive a sacrament such as confirmation or matrimony. Acceptable proof of baptism would be:

  • A baptismal certificate from a Catholic church
  • A baptismal certificate from a Christian faith community whose baptisms are recognized as valid
  • Testimony of two witnesses of the baptism
